A devotional from Dad's radio ministry

Moments to Remember

For years Ken recorded short radio spots called Moments to Remember. Each one tells a simple story, opens the Bible to one promise, and ends the same way: “This has been a moment to remember from the Bible.” Kevin is gathering them into a little devotional, with Dad's color picture on the cover.

keepm.org: Carrying the Legacy, Reaching the Islands

KEE Philippine Missions (Kenneth Ercil Engle Philippine Missions) exists to carry on the passion, the plan and the goals of Ken Engle.

In 1945 Ken flew over the Philippines as a B-24 tail gunner, praying that the Lord would let him return as a messenger and start churches there. He did. He and Mary Lou served in the islands from 1951 to 1975, and Ken preached on the radio until 2000.

Audio BibleWhat we do. keepm.org is a 24-hour gospel radio station, on the air since July 2026, playing Ken's messages around the clock. Through the Messenger 60 program, local churches in the Philippines invite children, teenagers, students and working adults to memorize 60 Bible verses or to complete Bible correspondence courses, such as What the Bible Teaches from Emmaus Bible Ministries. Each one who finishes receives a solar audio Bible free, to keep for life: the whole Bible in English and Tagalog (NASB), 60 gospel messages by Pastor Charles Stanley, an AM radio and a flashlight, in a waterproof case and loud enough for a family to gather around. Filipinos at home or in the U.S. can serve as Messenger and Memorization Coordinators; write to Kevin with your testimony.

Audio Bible, back, with its solar panelHow you can help. Our long-term vision is to place one million digital Bibles in the Philippines. Our first step is to distribute one million copies of the gospel tract This Was Your Life. Every gift goes directly toward that literature and toward Messenger 60 audio Bibles. To give, send through PayPal to kengle86@yahoo.com. Questions: kengle86@gmail.com. Gifts are not tax-deductible at this time; we hope to offer that in the future and will let our supporters know when it does.

Keep them for Jesus for eternity.

Then: A New Mission

Kevin, about eight, at the reins of a calesa in the Philippines, taken shortly after he was saved on 5 September 1965: a boy with a new mission. That mission goes on today, taking the gospel to the Philippines on digital Bibles through keepm.org, and Kevin is getting ready to go back for the first time since 1993.

Carrying the vision

Karen & Patrick: Carrying on the Vision

  • 1990–1995
  • 2012–present
  • Romblon, Romblon, Visayas

Karen was born in the Philippines in 1955, Ken and Mary Lou's second daughter. As an adult she went back as a missionary herself: first from 1990 to 1995, as a single missionary in the Manila area, and then from 2012 to the present, first with her husband, Patrick Carder. Of all Ken and Mary Lou's children, she has served there the longest.

The call to Romblon came through Lani, an old friend who had helped Karen in her single years near Manila and who now lived on the island. Romblon is a small island of marble and coconut palms in the Sibuyan Sea, fourteen hours from Manila by overnight boat: thirty-three square miles, almost 38,000 people, thirty-one barangays. Fishermen go out all night with their flashlights, and along the roads people from small children to grandparents sit with hammer and chisel, breaking marble into gravel.

Patrick learned Tagalog word by word. Karen, well on her way to fluency, studied with a tutor every week. They were commended missionaries with CMML (Christian Missions in Many Lands), an organization affiliated with those sometimes known as “Plymouth Brethren.”

On Romblon, Romblon, Visayas

The children

They got to know the children first. At their gate they set up a little feeding station, where pupils walking home from school could pick up some rice and candy, and from there they began a children's club. In August 2020 Karen wrote home that she had been “busy with kids verse club… 70 kids memorizing the book of Romans.”

The ministries

A small group met in their home every Sunday morning to remember the Lord and learn the basics of the faith. Karen taught the older women of the barangay with the Emmaus course What the Bible Teaches, in English and Tagalog. Patrick befriended the barangay captains, prayed with them, and planned to show the Jesus film in every one of the island's thirty-one barangays.

The bake shop

Karen also ran a bake shop. There she trained people in baking, teaching them skills and how to earn money for their families.

The translation

Patrick worked with the team translating William MacDonald's Believer's Bible Commentary into Tagalog. “There is NONE (No, not one!) available in the Filipino language,” he wrote in 2015.

Patrick and Karen
Patrick and Karen

Patrick went to be with the Lord in May 2026. Karen plans to continue the work on Romblon and will be returning to the Philippines shortly.

From Missions (CMML), February 2015, by Kenneth and Joyce Hardisty, who visited them on Romblon; Patrick's letter of 2 September 2015; and Karen's email of 29 August 2020.
