Don Robertson

Lord, Give Us This Mountain

Don Robertson taught in the Discipleship Intern Training Program alongside William MacDonald, Jean Gibson and Jim McCarthy. He was the friend closest to Bill MacDonald when Bill went to be with the Lord, and he gave the eulogy at Bill’s memorial service. Today, while living with cancer, he is still asking everyone he meets the question that matters most.

His story

Don grew up in a Christian home in Vancouver, British Columbia. By his own account he was religious on the outside but lost on the inside, until 1978, when at the age of twenty he asked the Lord to save him.

In 1979 he came to California for the Discipleship Intern Training Program (DITP) in San Leandro. For nine months a small class of twelve studied the whole Bible under William MacDonald and Jean Gibson, with mornings in the Word and afternoons out sharing it.

After the program he travelled through thirteen countries in Europe. In Vichy, France, Bill MacDonald invited him to come back to California and serve full time, without a salary. Don came. He joined the program’s staff and taught alongside Bill MacDonald, Jean Gibson and Jim McCarthy for more than ten years.

Like Bill, Don learned from the example of George Müller to bring his needs to God in prayer rather than to people. He has no theological degree. He worked in his father’s cabinet shop and later in sales, and for many years he has published and given away Christian books. He and his wife, Krista, married in 1983 and raised seven children.

Beside Bill MacDonald to the end

Don was the friend closest to William MacDonald when Bill went home to the Lord on Christmas Day, 2007. On 12 January 2008, at Fairhaven Bible Chapel in San Leandro, Don gave the eulogy at Bill’s memorial service.

“For to me to live is Christ”

Don has lived with cancer since 2016. The Lord carried him through radiation, and again in 2020 through a Stage IV diagnosis, with surgery and treatment. The cancer came back in 2025, and since January 2026 it has been held in check. Through it all Don has written openly and without fear, pointing to Philippians 1:21: for to me, living is Christ and dying is gain.

“Where will you spend eternity?”

In October 2026 Don’s high school class at Hamber, in Vancouver, held its 50th reunion. With Krista beside him, Don thanked his classmates for their kind words and their prayers for his health. He honoured those in the class who had died too young, and reminded everyone that they are all nearing the finish line. Then he asked them the question that matters most: Where will you spend eternity?

He gave each classmate a card offering three free books, and afterward he wrote to them:

I may never see you again on earth. I pray I will see you all in heaven!Don Robertson, October 2026
